The food scene is CALIENTE in Miami

Sorry for the delay in posts everyone, the delay was for good reason – I was in Miami Beach all week eating some amazing food.

I decided that during the week before I start my new job, I would vacation in Miami Beach with my friend. We reserved an oceanfront hotel and spent each day soaking up the sun.

When we weren’t laying out, we went out for great lunches and dinners. As I mentioned in my last post, my grandmother used to make the best Haitian food for me when I was growing up, so when I arrived in Miami I was excited to have Caribbean food at my fingertips – mostly Cuban food on Miami Beach.

My friend and I went out for lunch and dinner each day and enjoyed each meal except for dinner on our final night…take a peek at the pictures from our Miami food tour below:

Lunch at Bella Cuba

Fried ripe plantains, pork tamale, avocado tomato salad, mango juice

 Dinner at Moshi Moshi

Moshi Moshi Roll, Garden Shrimp Roll, Dragon Roll and Crunchy Alaskan Roll

Lunch at the beach from our hotel, the Royal Palm

Caipirinha on the beach, Fish tacos, hotel pool

Dinner at the Tudor House: Owned by the Food Network chef Geoffrey Zakarian (mostly seen on Chopped as a judge)

Homemade pretzels in a honey mustard dipping sauce, Greek panzanella salad, Alaskan King Crab, Ricotta and sweet corn agnolotti, broccolini with burrata, braised short ribs and popcorn milkshake with homemade chocolate hazelnut "kit-kats"

Dinner at Yardbird: Owned by Top Chef cheftestant Jeff McInnis

Fried chicken and biscuit with pickled vegetables, roasted corn appetizer, yardbird special brisket with chicken liver grits, sweet tea glazed ribs, Top Chef cheftestant and Yardbird owner Jeff McInnis, outside of Yardbird, Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade cocktail, cocktail list, Southern Peach and the PorkChop cocktails

Lunch at Puerto Sagua

Chicken empanada and Cuban sandwich

Happy Hour and Dinner at Doraku Sushi

Happy Hour: Salmon Carpaccio, Crunchy Crab Roll, Sweet and Spicy Edamame; Dinner: Miso soup, House salad, two specialty rolls (not so great)

With my birthday coming up this week and starting a new job, I will likely have a bunch of new food experiences under my belt, but it may take me a bit longet than usual to get them up…so please bear with me and have a wonderful week!

  1. Veryyyy jealous of your vaca… I’m a HUUUGE sushi fan and both places you went to looked like the sushi was unbelievable but you said the last night dinner wasn’t that good – was that the last sushi place?

Good luck with your new job!

    • Hi Jenn! The sushi at Moshi Moshi was amazing, the sushi at Doraku was underwhelming, but the apps and drinks we got were great – I had lychee martinis that were great, the sweet and spicy edamame was wonderful. I had never had edamame with something on it like that, it was great, but it did make your lips burn after a while. A good burn tho ;). Have you been to Douzo or Basho in Boston? I love them, they have good standard sushi and some great creative rolls too. I’ve been slacking on my sushi tasting through Boston, I’ve been wanting to try Uni, Oishii and O Ya among others. I’ve got to get on that! Thank you for the well wishes for my new job :)
